Thanks to TD Bank Group, Victoria Foundation and Vision in Bloom donor support, we’ve had another successful year of growth at the Farm at RRU between June 1, 2024 and May 31, 2025.
This past year, we planted the Polyculture Orchard and installed irrigation and an on-site wash station. We saw a 36% increase in produce yield – from 4,500 lbs in 2023-24 to 7,000 lbs in 2024-25. Produce was donated to community members and partners, including the Songhees Wellness Centre, the Fernwood Neighbourhood Resource Group’s Good Food Box Program, and Habitat Café – RRU’s on-campus food provider.
We also increased the number of learning, research and volunteer opportunities throughout the growing season by 69%, cultivating a strong sense of care and appreciation for the environment among our community.
Our vision for the next phase of the Farm at RRU is to harness its potential as a dynamic living lab by developing and implementing an Educational Plan that will identify diverse opportunities for community members to engage through RRU undergraduate and graduate programs, research, workshops, seminars, continuing education, micro-credentials and partnered educational offerings.
